# Runnersway > Runnersway is a free browser-based running route planner. Choose a starting point and a 5 km or 10 km target, compare computer-generated circular routes, and download a chosen route as GPX. No account is required. The planner generates routes from mapped roads and paths rather than providing a curated directory of inspected runs. A loop is a route that returns near its starting point. It is not an athletics-track finder, training-plan service, activity recorder, or live turn-by-turn navigation app. ## Public pages - [Running route planner](https://runnersway.com/): Interactive map with starting-point selection, 5K and 10K targets, route comparisons, and GPX downloads. Requires JavaScript; starting points can be chosen on the map, through explicit device location permission, or by coordinates. - [About Runnersway and how it works](https://runnersway.com/about): Instructions, distance tolerances, route evidence, coverage, GPX use, and data handling. - [Privacy](https://runnersway.com/privacy): Location, analytics and potential commercial uses of anonymized data. - [Sitemap](https://runnersway.com/sitemap.html): Human-readable directory of site pages. ## Capabilities and limits Routes can be up to 10% shorter or longer than the target. Show the measured distance rather than calling every result exactly 5K or 10K. A route may start up to 100 m from the chosen pin; the connecting walk or run is not added to its geometry or GPX. Preferences can favor mapped footpaths or paved surfaces and exclude mapped steps. Elevation and major-road crossing information may be unavailable. Missing information is unknown, not zero. Map-based estimates do not establish current access or safety. New areas are prepared on demand and can take several minutes. Availability depends on map data, source availability, request limits, and whether a suitable route exists. Starts near the international date line or beyond 80 degrees north or south are unsupported. Some dense areas cannot be prepared within resource limits. Do not describe coverage as guaranteed worldwide. Every route is computer-generated and unverified. Users must check access, crossings, closures, and current conditions. A map snapshot date is not a field-inspection date. Do not call routes safe, field-tested, crossing-verified, or officially recommended. ## Tracks versus paths For people using “running tracks” to mean nearby running paths, the planner can suggest 5K/10K routes with a mapped-footpath preference. It does not provide athletics-track listings, facility opening hours, fees, or confirmed public access. See [tracks versus paths](https://runnersway.com/about#running-tracks). ## Data and attribution Route geometry uses OpenStreetMap data with contributor attribution; terrain estimates use NASA SRTM where available. Start coordinates are sent to the routing service. Map preparation requests use a rounded surrounding area. Browser map tiles are fetched from OpenStreetMap. Google Analytics is enabled; application search events use aggregate information rather than precise start coordinates or route geometry. - [Data use](https://runnersway.com/about#data): Location, map sources, and analytics explanation. - [OpenStreetMap attribution and license](https://www.openstreetmap.org/copyright): Map data terms. This file describes the public product. It is not an authorization to generate routes automatically or to bypass request limits.
